Susan is the founder, owner, and principal attorney at Susan J. Kim LLC, a boutique law firm with offices in Deer Park and Chicago.
Susan practices primarily in the field of residential/commercial real estate and the sale/purchase of small businesses; however, she collaborates with attorneys in other fields of law, such as family law, civil litigation, property tax appeals, tax sales, criminal law, corporate law, etc. For this reason, she is able to refer her clients to her vast network of attorneys to best represent her client’s interests and needs.

Susan is known to be attentive and meticulous during contract review through closing, approachable, kind, and responsive to her clients, and a dedicated advocate for her clients. She also works with a broad range of clients, from first-time homebuyers to seniors, investors, etc., closing more than 200 transactions yearly.

Susan attributes the success of Susan J. Kim LLC to her amazing SJK Team: Carolyn Cabanban (Senior Paralegal) and Sharon Cheong (Paralegal), and two attorneys to cover closings to ensure that clients always have an attorney at their buy closings.
Susan is married to David and recently celebrated their 10-year anniversary with their three children.

Patricia Tauchert practices in the fields of estate planning, business transactions - including buying and selling businesses - private business investment, agreements with customers and vendors, shareholder agreements, operating agreements, business counsel, employment law, complex commercial real estate, and lending arrangements.
Pat Tauchert is a 1979 graduate of Northwestern University School of Law. She has extensive experience representing service, tech, and retail businesses and manufacturers, as well as churches and other not-for-profit organizations. She has served as in-house counsel to the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, Sears, and Square D/Schneider Electric and worked as an income partner with Pluymert, Macdonald & Lee. Pat has successfully negotiated multi-million dollar deals in the US, Canada, Europe, and the Middle East. She has handled transactions covering such diverse matters as sales of businesses; structure and organization of businesses; construction; purchase of capital equipment and inventory; sales of goods and services; commercial real estate sales and leasing; copyright and trademark licensing; dispute resolution; financing arrangements and loan workouts; and employment issues. Pat Tauchert is experienced in government contract compliance requirements, including diversity, Buy America, ethics and pricing regulations, certification for women and minority-owned businesses, and IRS compliance issues for not-for-profit organizations. Pat handles diverse issues for our for-profit and not-for-profit business clients.
Pat handles estate planning matters for individuals and couples seeking to ensure their property is managed in accordance with their wishes.
Pat Tauchert is a published author and has testified in front of State legislative committees on pending legislation and regulations on the sale of goods. She is a past chair of the Religious Organizations Subcommittee of the American Bar Association and contributing editor and author of the American Bar Association publication, Guide to Representing Religious Organizations, published in March 2009, as well as articles on the impact of proposed changes to Article 2 of the
Uniform Commercial Code published by the American Bar Association and the Southern Methodist University Law Review. Pat served for ten years as an adjunct professor at Judson University, most frequently teaching Business Law.

Patricia Tauchert
Carolyn is a Senior Paralegal with Susan J. Kim, Attorney at Law, and she has a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from Michigan State University and an ABA-approved Certificate of Legal Studies from the College of Lake County. Carolyn enjoys the fast pace of real estate and helping clients make such important transactions seamless.

Originally from Michigan, Carolyn moved to Chicago in 1995 and has called the area home ever since. She enjoys the diversity and all the different cultures that Chicago encompasses. When she's not busy helping clients with their real estate needs, Carolyn enjoys going on adventures with her two kids and cheering on the Cubs and the Michigan State Spartans. As an avid runner, Carolyn ran the Chicago Marathon in 2017, and she says there's no better way to see the city than on foot!

Sharon joined the SJK team this year with a fresh perspective on real estate law. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a Bachelor of Sciences in Psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and is currently enrolled in an ABA-approved program for a Certificate of Paralegal Studies from American National University.
As a Chicagoland native, Sharon is passionate about serving clients who are starting their new chapters in the area. She supports the SJK team with the ins and outs of real estate and small business transactions. She also provides Korean translation services to ensure a quality experience through closing.
Outside of the office, you can find Sharon in cafes reading or working on illustration projects, while building up an appetite for the next best restaurants in Chicago and her future travel destinations.
